Mexico National Team couldn't score a decisive victory on Thursday night against USMNT, as the Aztec squad only managed to save a point after a scoreless draw, given the few options they had on offense, even if they had possession for most of the game.
What FMF will have to pay to get rid of Gerardo Martino
Neither Hirving "Chucky" Lozano, Jesús "Tecatito" Corona, nor Raúl Jiménez were able to open the score sheet, as they weren't able to even get in the box to alarm Zack Steffen. Instead, it was the Stars and Stripes who had the clearest plays of the game.
And the same thing that happened against USMNT, has happened in most of the games since the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup, as the lack of goals has become the only constant thing in Gerardo “Tata” Martino’s stint in the last year.
Meanwhile, El Tri U-20 squad is also facing different games during this FIFA match window, and Marcelo Flores has become one of the players that stood out the most in Luis Pérez’s squad, as he evenmanaged to score a goal.
Even if he’s only 18, Flores has showed a commitment with El Tri that few times is seen with players with his talent, because even if he could represent either Canada or England, Marcelo Flores has decided to wait until he gets an opportunity to play with the senior squad.
It’s worth remembering that Flores already debuted on a friendly match against Chile, although he only played the last 10 minutes of the game. Since then, Gerardo Martino hasn’t considered him to any of the two call-ups of the years.
Canada MNT knows that they have few options to convince Flores to join them, as he still could play for them if he decided to. So far, Canada is leader of CONCACAF and has a golden generation that could help them make history in the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup.
For now, Martino hasn’t considered giving him a call even if he knows of the talent he has, but the young player still has six more months to impress him and earn a spot on the final roster, something he might be able to do if he manages to debut with Arsenal’s first team.
