Now that Manchester United is only fighting to finish the season in Champions League spots, as they were eliminated from this year’s Champions League by Atlético Madrid and don’t have chances of winning Premier League, big changes are coming for the Red Devils.

The biggest change for Manchester United will be the new coach that will arrive in the Red Devil’s bench, Erik ten Hag, who currently is coaching Eredivisie side Ajax and will replace Ralf Rangnick, who only signed to coach Man U until the end of the season.
One of the things that Erik ten Hag has done in Ajax and that will try to replicate in Manchester United is building a squad full of young players, not only because if they want to sell them, they’ll earn more money than what they invested, but also because they will grow and play together for at least four or five years.
That strategy doesn’t match with having Cristiano Ronaldo on the team, as the Portuguese striker is 37 years old and is used to be the center of the team, instead of being another piece of the puzzle, which is why Ten Hag already told him that he doesn’t have a place in United’s roster.
According to reports from Diario As, Erik ten Hag is already planning some of the additions he’ll request for next season, especially if Cristiano Ronaldo is sold, as the income that his departure generates to Manchester United will be used to acquire new players.
One of those players is Edson Álvarez, who has worked closely with Erik ten Hag since he joined AFC Ajax in 2019 out of Club América. Since then, Álvarez has become one of the best players in Ajax’s roster and Ten Hag knows he’ll be of use in United.
Erik ten Hag personally requested his arrival at Ajax and now he’ll do the same in Manchester United, as he knows that having players that he knows will help him build faster a trust relationship between him and the players.
The 24-year-old defensive midfielder, who can also play as a midfielder or center back, is still under contract with Ajax until 2025, which is why if Manchester United were to acquire him, they will have to pay at least $22 million.
