Mexico National Team will face the last World Cup Qualifiers match window next week, in three games that will decide the future of El Tri, as a victory against USMNT would mean to become the second team classified to Qatar 2022 from CONCACAF.
Gerardo Martino didn’t call to Mexico National Team a striker because he partied with Lionel Messi
The games against Honduras and El Salvador are pointing to be mere procedure, given that both teams are already eliminated, as Honduras hasn’t won a single game out of the 11 that have been played and El Salvador needs a miracle to arrive to the last games with the hope of earning the playoff spot.
That’s why the pressure is higher on the first game of the FIFA match window, and if El Tri don’t manage to win against the Bars and Stripes, who will have a roster without four of their best players in it, it could be the end of Gerardo “Tata” Martino as El Tri’s coach.
The Argentine coach is aware of it, which is why he decided to leave some of the regular players he called for past games out of the current roster, hoping to have a more solid structure throughout the 90 minutes, especially on offense, where they haven’t been able to score.
In the Mexican Football Federation, they’re considering having a replacement on standby who can take over the job if Martino doesn’t achieve the goal for the next FIFA match window, which is why they already contacted Miguel Herrera.
The former Mexico National Team coach is interested in having a second stint with El Tri, as he had to leave the Aztec squad on bad terms, after he was recorded punching a TV commentator in the airport after the 2015 Gold Cup.
Herrera is willing to arrive in El Tri as a replacement for Gerardo Martino if Yon de Luisa and FMF let him build the roster as he pleases, as he knows that some of the players on the current roster shouldn’t be there, like Jesús Gallardo or Héctor Moreno.
Although he wasn’t part of the roster for the upcoming FIFA match window given that he’s injured, Rogelio Funes Mori will lose his place in El Tri once Miguel Herrera takes over, as he hasn’t given any reasons to be part of the Aztec squad.
