Orbelín Pineda is the latest Mexican player to leave Liga MX to try his luck on Europe, as he didn’t renew his contract with Cruz Azul to join La Liga side Celta de Vigo as a free agent during the current transfer window.

Before he could even sign, he faced his first problem: the team didn’t have any open spots for non-European players, which delayed his addition to the Olívicos. Now, after he finally signed and joined his teammates, he might be facing new problems that could prevent him from playing.
Even though he was registered with Celta de Vigo un the past few hours and he already was called to his first game, Pineda stayed on the bench by Eduardo Coudet’s decision, although Celta de Vigo were winning by a comfortable 2-0 score and had 5 substitutions, something that could be interpreted as a similar situation Héctor Herrera is living in Atlético Madrid.

According to Transfermarkt, the 25-year-old left-striker’s market value is set at $10.2 million, but his former team, Cruz Azul, had to pay $19 million to acquire Orbelín Pineda’s economic rights out of Chivas back in 2019, although his market value was set at $5.7 million.
