Even if the results were favorable for El Tri during the CONCACAF Qualifiers, the Aztec squad has yet to find the best lineup available, as several of the players that Gerardo “Tata” Martino called couldn’t help to perform better.

Martino has to find a way to connect all the zones of the pitch, as El Tri has been excelling at defending, but they don’t have a solid midfield, especially when they have to recover the ball, and the offense have been lacking a lethal striker.

Martino will have to look to all the options he hasn’t considered, including the players that are part of the academy teams, as he can find a couple of additions that will improve the overall performance of the squad with their speed and abilities, like Benjamín Galdames.

Galdames received death threats after getting sent off

The 21-year-old right-winger, who can also play as a forward or offensive midfielder, currently plays for Chilean side Unión Española on Chile’s first division, where he also played in their academy squads before joining the first team for this season.

But during last weekend’s game against Colo-Colo, where El Rojo won by a 2-1 score, Galdames, who was on the bench, was sent off for getting into a fight after he jumped on the pitch when one of his teammates received a foul.

After the red card, Chilean fans were angry at him and even threatened his life and his family, as they didn’t like that he was sent off in such a fool way. Galdames shared on his Twitter account some of the threats, asking for respect for him and his people.

Can he play for Mexico National Team?

Galdames was born in Mexico when his father, Pablo Galdames, was playing for Cruz Azul, making him the only of the three Galdames brothers that can play for either Chile or Mexico, although he’s inclined to defend El Tri colors, as he’s played with the U-20 and U-21 squads.
