One of the things that Mexico National Team has been more criticized lately for is the fact that most of the starting XI are out of shape or age has got to them and, even if they have enough experience, they can’t compete with the speedy youngsters that teams like Canada MNT and USMNT are using.
Real Madrid wants to sign the successor of Carlos Vela and Javier Hernández
Although CONCACAF is a confederation that will give easy access to the World Cup to Mexico National Team no matter what, it’s true that if they keep playing on the same level as they have been doing since the 2021 Gold Cup, they won’t have much to do in Qatar 2022.
Hopefully, Gerardo “Tata” Martino understands that before the 2022 FIFA World Cup begins in November and changes the roster he usually calls, as players like Héctor Moreno and Julio César Domínguez are becoming a liability instead of a real contribution.
Currently in Liga MX, there’s at least one central defender that is capable of replacing either one of them and join César Montes in the backfield, not only because he’s playing at a high level since Jaime Lozano took over in Necaxa, but also because Jesús Alberto Alcántar almost left to Europe during the winter Transfer Window.
The 18-year-old central defender started his professional career in Cimarrones de Sonora, in Liga de Expansión, Mexico’s second flight, but since 2020, he joined Liga MX side Club Necaxa, where he played in their academy teams until Clausura 2022.
After Pablo Guede was sacked from his position as Necaxa coach and was replaced by Jaime Lozano, Alcántar has been able to get enough playing time to show why he was one of the best defenders in the U-20 league and almost left for Europe before Clausura 2022 started.
Reports suggest that Sporting Lisboa is deeply interested in Alcántar and even made an offer for him during the past winter transfer window. Allegedly, Necaxa agreed to the offer and all the parties involved were ready to sign his incorporation to the Primeira Liga club, but a bureaucratic detail stopped his arrival. His contract with Necaxa ends up over the summer, which means he can arrive as a free agent for the next season.
