The Mexican national team is already in preparations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup now that there’s less than six months until their debut, on November 20 against Poland, a match that will be one of the most important games for El Tri, along the one against Argentina.
He refused to play for Mexico National Team and now he doesn’t even play with his team
Gerardo “Tata” Martino called up a 36-man preliminary list for the summer friendly games, from which he’ll choose most of the players that will be on the final roster for Qatar, although there’s still the possibility that one or two players that were not considered for the summer will make it to the World Cup.
Among those players that Martino didn’t consider, stands out Julio Furch, who is on the final steps of becoming a Mexican citizenship, and the Argentine coach has already state that he’s just waiting for Furch to earn the nationality to call him up for El Tri.
But the arrival of Furch at El Tri is also the way that Martino has found to close the door to one of the most promising strikers that El Tri currently has, as even if he’s playing in Europe and has experience in playing in a first division, he hasn’t earned an opportunity of showing why he’s ready for the senior squad.
Santiago Muñoz is under contract with Newcastle United for six more months, as he was loaned from Santos Laguna to the Premier League side in an 18-month loan after the Mexican American forward impressed with his performances in Liga MX.
The 19-year-old Magpie striker has yet to debut with El Tri, and even if for now he’s part of the U-21 squad that will play in the Tournoi Maurice Revello, in Toulon, France, he’s been followed closely by USMNT and Gregg Berhalter, who wants to add another striker prior the World Cup.
