After months and months of speculation, Gerardo Martino finally revealed why he has not called Javier Hernandez to the Mexican National Soccer Team.
According to an interview with Mexican media, "Tata" explained that the reasons why he has not called Chicharito to El Tri are exclusively sporting.
According to the coach of the Mexican National Team, he has not called Chicharito to El Tri for purely sporting reasons, as stated to the media, among which there was speculation that there were other reasons.
"I have opted for other players, but in no case is there any analysis of Javier's current career that I am unaware of, I have simply chosen to call others".
According to Martino, his selection of players for call-ups is made according to the players' current soccer moment.
"I may have a different impression of the player I decided to call up or not, and I have learned much more about Funes Mori, Henry (Martín), and recently Santiago (Giménez).
With this, speculation that Martino had had a personal problem with Javier Hernández Balcázar, which would have prevented the LA Galaxy striker from making it to the Mexican National Team, has been cleared up.
But now it is known that Martino has not called him only because he has simply preferred other players, despite the fact that Hernandez Balcazar is currently one of the top scorers in MLS.
On the possibility that in the future Chicharito could be called up to the Mexican National Team, due to the fact that FIFA will increase the number of players called up with respect to previous tournaments, Martino responded:
"We still have to see, because even now we have to start making a different analysis, because maybe we have three more places and we have to see how we occupy them, but I will look for players with good momentum."
And it is precisely this argument that could lead Hernández to the Mexican National Team again if he continues to give great performances with the LA Galaxy, a club for which the player has scored 5 goals, and with which he is tied for the tournament's scoring lead.
But so far everything seems to indicate that the coach of El Tri will continue to rely on players such as Rogelio Funes Mori, Henry Martin, and Santiago Gimenez.
But so far none of these players has been able to carry the weight of the team as Javier Hernandez has done in many important matches for Mexico.
