The absence of Carlos Acevedo in the roster that Gerardo “Tata” Martino called to play the last World Cup Qualifiers match window was one of the biggest surprises, especially since Martino decided to call four different goalkeepers.

But after Jonathan Orozco suffered an injury that made him step down from El Tri, Acevedo finally received the call and is making the most out of his presence in Mexico National Team camp, as he’s impressed everyone in Martino’s coaching staff.

But instead of being a good thing for El Tri, it has started to cause problems, as Gerardo Martino had already decided who were going to be the three goalkeepers on the final roster for Qatar and now, he might have to change things.

According to the reports of TUDN, Carlos Acevedo not only has climbed spots in El Tri’s roster, leaving behind Alfredo Talavera and Alfonso Cota, but now he’s also competing against Guillermo Ochoa to become the starting goalkeeper for the Aztec squad.

Will Acevedo arrive in Qatar?

It has yet to be seen what Gerardo Martino decides after the current FIFA match window, as now, the five goalkeepers have chances of making it to the final roster, although it seems difficult to move Ochoa from the starting role.

But if Carlos Acevedo manages to leave Santos Laguna and Liga MX over the summer and join a European club -reports suggest that he’s been followed by at least two teams-, his chances of ensuring his place in Qatar grow exponentially.
