It’s been clear for a while that Rogelio Funes Mori doesn’t have the level needed to play for Mexico National Team, especially on a position that El Tri craves a striker that can finish every play they’re involved, not only on the opponent’s penalty box but also on their own when needed.

And that’s exactly what Funes Mori doesn’t do, as he’s demonstrated on the current World Cup Qualifiers match window. His first big mistake was on the visit to Kingston, when he gave away the goal that gave Jamaica the partial victory, although El Tri, without “El Mellizo” on the pitch, managed to comeback.

Now, the second mistake he made was against Costa Rica in Estadio Azteca, where he couldn’t wait a couple of seconds before striking the ball, as he prevented the goal that potentially would give the victory to El Tri as he was on offside. Martino decided to sub him at 62’ for Henry Martin.

Who could take Funes Mori place in El Tri?

El Tri hasn’t found the striker that can complement what Raúl Jiménez does for Mexico National Team, and the lack of goals they’ve manifested over the last year is worrisome, to say the least, but Martino refuses to call Carlos Vela, Javier Hernández or even Marcelo Flores.
