Colombian striker Roger Martínez apologized to Club America fans for his sending-off against Puebla on Day 1 of Liga MX.
Minutes earlier, the Cartagena, Colombia-born striker had committed a foul for which he was cautioned by the referee after a scuffle.
The referee's action unleashed a tantrum from Santiago Solari, who ended up being sent off for his complaints and the invasion of the field.
After Roger Martínez was sent off by the referee, the fans of the Mexican soccer team set the social networks on fire with their protests.
The main complaint was that the refereeing was bought or that the referee was corrupt because, for them, there was no foul.
However, the player took to his Twitter account to offer his apologies to the fans because he's sending off put his team, which had started the match in a formidable manner, at a disadvantage, with one of the fastest goals ever scored in Liga MX 2022.
The attacker wrote on his Twitter account:
"I am sorry... for the expulsion, but I am very proud of my teammates for the balls, the effort, and the great sacrifice. Against everything and anyone we go Pa' lante to death with this team".
Thus, his actions unintentionally caused Club America to be without a man on the field and also without its coach, who will probably miss several matches due to the sanction that is being considered to be imposed on him.
These factors, together with a lack of attacking proposals, made the Aguilas look out of rhythm and with little hunger for goals, which left their fans furious at the end of the match, who expressed their dissatisfaction through social networks.
However, despite being at a disadvantage, Puebla only managed to score one goal against the team from Coapa, reflecting the fact that even in difficult conditions, the Aguilas should never be underestimated.
The first yellow card was given to the Colombian in the 32nd minute when he and Maximiliano Araújo fought for a divided ball.
The Colombian tried to cover the ball with his body very close to the side where the technical staffs of both teams were and after losing control of the ball, he kicked the Uruguayan midfielder in the leg.
It was at that moment that when the referee gave him a caution, Club America's coach, Santiago Solari, lost control and was sent off.
The attacker's second yellow card was given in the 34th minute, after a foot strike that few noticed on defender Juan Pablo Segovia.
