Club América couldn’t win a new Liga MX title in Clausura 2022 for different factors, the first one, the awful start that they had wit Santiago Solari, as Las Águilas were standing last after Week 9 with six points, result of one victory and three draws.
Thanks to Pachuca vs Atlas FC, this Club América will leave for Apertura 2022
But one of the biggest factors was the lack of a striker that could score consistently, which is what hurt their aspirations especially in the semifinals, as Pachuca were able to score three goals and Las Águilas couldn’t get near Óscar Ustari’s goal.
Neither Henry Martín nor Federico Viñas contributed to Las Águilas during the season, as Martín only scored three goals before going through a drought that he hasn’t been able to break, and Viñas was able to find the net just one time.
Fernando “Tano” Ortíz, who was recently named Club América coach for Apertura 2022, knows that is essential for Las Águilas to sign a new striker that can contribute on a regular basis if they want to have real possibilities of transcending next season.
That’s why according to reports from sports journalist César Luis Merlo, Club América is interested in the addition of Gustavo del Prete, striker that currently plays for Argentine side Estudiantes La Plata. If they were to acquire him, América will have to pay $4.1 million for his transfer.
The 25-year-old Argentine forward has been criticized by his lack of goals, as he only scored four goals in the past season, numbers that are not attractive for the Azulcrema fans, who have been requesting parting ways with Henry Martín for that exact same reason.
