João Neves seems to be getting closer to leaving Benfica this summer as Paris Saint Germain is set to agree on a deal with the Portuguese club. His release clause is worth around $120 million, but PSG wants to pay less than that. The Portuguese club is open to selling him less than the release clause, and PSG reportedly has personal terms agreed upon with the young midfielder. Manchester United were also interested in signing Neves but they miss out by not being willing to negotiate a deal.

The midfielder is seen as the future of Portugal and will be a key player for the national team for many years. Benfica has developed lots of young players in the past, but this time, it will be hard for the club and the fans to lose him since he has played at the club since he was a young boy. Benfica is his boyhood club.

A Bola reports that João Neves already has a full agreement with PSG as he will earn around $5 million per year, which is ten times more than he earns at Benfica. The deal could be announced next week or in a few days.

Portuguese reports suggest that PSG will pay a total of around $70 million for Neves this summer, which is preferable to the $120 million release clause. Neves reportedly will sign with PSG for five years. The final details are being clarified, and the Portuguese midfielder hopes to join the club soon.

Neves played in the EUROS with the Portuguese national team but only started in one match, which was the 2-0 loss against Georgia. Neves played 55 matches for Benfica this past season, which may be his last ever season at the Portuguese club. He scored three goals and provided two assists as a defensive midfielder.

The real reason Neves wants to join PSG

João Neves will not only earn more at PSG than at Benfica, but he wants to be a part of a team coached by manager Luis Enrique. The Spanish manager managed to guide PSG to the semifinals of the Champions League, but he looks forward to going a step forward next season with Neves and other new players.
