As the Italian coach himself announced at the press conference, Karim Benzema and Ferland Mendy have been left out of the squad. "Neither Benzema nor Mendy will be in the squad against Barça," the Merengue coach told reporters.

"We have never taken any risks with Benzema, not even in the Paris game. He can't play because he still has discomfort and this doesn't allow him to train or play," Ancelotti said.

"If we win, we will have three more points. If we draw, one. If we lose, none. We mustn't rule out Barça no matter what happens, they will fight until the end," he replied when asked about the possibility of the Azulgrana side being a contender for the La Liga trophy.

Why won't Benzema and Mendy play?

The French striker has not recovered in time from his calf injury and is still in discomfort. Ancelotti himself has made it clear that he will not risk an inch with his top scorer. For his part, Mendy has an adductor injury that will keep him sidelined for ten to 13 days.

The good news is the return to the squad of Éder Militao, who was a last-minute absentee from Real Madrid's squad for last Monday's visit to Mallorca.

Also available to be part of the starting lineup is Gareth Bale, who trained normally this Saturday after training alone on Friday and could become the replacement for the injured Benzema in the attack.
