According to reports in the English press, USMNT´s Weston McKennie could be heading to Tottenham and Spurs have already contacted Juventus to start negotiations.
According to Football.London, Tottenham has the firm intention to sign the midfielder who currently plays for Juventus FC in Serie A, who is currently valued by the club at 29 million pounds.
This would not be the first time that Spurs have tried to take the USMNT international as it became known at the beginning of January that, according to Calciomercato, the Vecchia Signora had rejected an exchange offer from Tottenham.
Tottenham, at the request of Antonio Conte, tried to acquire the services of McKennie in exchange for Tanguy Ndombelé, but at the time and according to the same press reports, the proposal did not bear fruit.
And Juventus' refusal at the time was since McKennie has become very important in Massimiliano Allegri's team in recent weeks and to the lack of interest in Ndombelé.
As a result, the Turin side turned down the London outfit's offer, thus protecting the U.S. internationally. However, current reports suggest that Juve's response could change.
The main difference with the approach made in January between the Spurs board and Juve is that now the former is armed with more than just money: patience.
And it is that in their first approach the English club was desperate to take the USMNT international in this winter market but everything seems to indicate that now the English club is determined to wait.
Wait for what? Well, to wait for the summer to arrive so that Juventus can finally contemplate the midfielder's departure.
There is also another factor driving the American's exit to the Premier League and that is the admiration of Patricio Paratici, Tottenham Hotspur FC's director of soccer for McKennie.
And adding to the admiration of Tottenham's director of soccer is another factor: the fact that McKennie is exactly what Tottenham needs to revamp its midfield.
The London club currently has similar attacking and defensive midfielders, so McKennie's arrival could bring a valuable change as the player is capable of playing on the wing, in a deeper central position, or even filling in at full-back if needed.
And manager Antonio Conte loves this kind of versatility in his players, versatility that would help him when facing Chelsea who always exploits Spurs' flank weakness.
But before McKennie's possible move from Serie A to the Premier League is finalized, the player will have to pass a tough test: the qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
And the first test for the North American team will be the always tough national team of El Salvador, who know they have everything at stake in the match against the Stars and Stripes.
Therefore, an aggressive game is expected in which the Salvadoran players will go out to kill or die on the field, so players like McKennie will have to be very careful to avoid injury and maintain the pace they have been playing with their respective teams.
