Cameron Carter-Vickers has been playing at his prime for Celtic FC and now the Irish team started negotiations with Tottenham Hotspur for the permanent transfer of Carter-Vickers after adding the American center-back on a season-long loan last summer.
According to reports, Tottenham has valued Carter-Vickers transfer somewhere around 6 million euros (6.8 million dollars), a number The Bhoys could gladly pay out seeing how well the American player has been doing so far.
The 23-year-old has established himself in the staring XI as he’s played in 15 games so far in the Scottish Premiership and another five games in Europa League, where unfortunately the team didn’t make it to the next round as both Leverkusen and Betis had more points in the stage group.
The English-born USA international was also on the pitch for the Hoops on the three games they played in the Scottish League Cup, which eventually they won, giving Carter-Vikers his first senior trophy. Celtic won 2-1 against Hibernian FC in a match that the American played for the entire 90 minutes.
On the 23 games he’s disputed so far for Celtic’s side, Cameron Carter-Vickers has been able to score two times and assist in on occasion, all of them in the Premiership. He’s also has a 90% pass rating completion and has played 2070 minutes, that is to say he’s been on the pitch 100% of the available playtime.
The USMNT center-back has been praised by Celtic’s coach Ange Postecoglou, as he wants to keep him for good on the Scottish squad. Celtic might not even wait until the end of his loan, as they'll start pushing for his permanent transfer as soon as this winter transfer window.
Postecoglou said that he “wouldn’t have brought him in if I thought it was just a short-term thing. Building a team means more than just 12 months. A lot of that depends on the player himself, but those discussions will happen over the next couple of months.”
When asked about his future a couple of weeks ago, the defender said that his enjoying his time defending Celtic’s colors.
"I am enjoying my time up there and it is all going well," he said. "But I think like you said, I think it is a bit too early. It’s not fully down to me as well, so it is obviously discussions that will have to be had at the end of the season." But rumors now point to an early permanent transfer.
After debuting with the senior USMNT on 2017 on a friendly match against Portugal, Carter-Vickers has played only 8 games for the Stars and Stripes, his last game being against Jamaica in 2019.
But the young defender could be in Gregg Berhalter’s radar given his outstanding performances during the 2021/2022 season. His good shape, young age, regularity, and the fact that he’s been playing international games are things to keep in mind when looking for National-Team-level players.
