The 21-year-old midfielder signed a multi-year contract extension today that will tie him to PSV until 2024. Richy Ledezma's team is the current leader on Eredivisie with 43 points at the end of the first round entering the winter break.
The team announced the news through its social networks, alongside an interview they realized to the American-born prospect with Mexican roots, where he explains what this new contract means to him after he suffer a torn ACL last December.
The two-year extension adds up to the previous contract, when he joined PSV in 2019 and still had six months left, which means he will play for the Eindhoven team for at least two and half more years.
“I am excited to be part of the team again and look forward to developing my skills. I have fought back but I know I have to be patient. I am really proud to be back. Words cannot describe how I feel”.
He made his official comeback on December 7 serving as a substitute during the 2-0 win against Fortuna Sittard, in the KNVB Beker. He also had his long awaited return in an official Eredivisie match yesterday, as he was able play the final minutes on what was also the last game of the year for PSV.
“This feels great after all I went through last season. I am very happy and enjoy being a football player every single minute,” said Ledezma when asked how he felt about inking the new deal. “I’m very happy, I have no words. You can tell the club trusts me a lot so I’m excited to get started again. It’s very special for me, my family and my girlfriend.”
When asked about how he’s knee is doing after the injury he answered: “Good. I mean, it’s strong, so that’s the most important thing. I’m healthy and got no problems so that’s positive.”
Back in December 2020, Richy Ledezma suffered a torn ACL during the home game between PSV and AC Omonia, which prevent him to play for almost a year.
He began his recovery process back in the US alongside his family, but relocated to Eindhoven during the summer to start training with Jong PSV, the Academy team where he’s played most of the games for the Dutch team.
Although Richy Ledezma has done his National Team career for the US Academy, he still has the chance to join El Tri as he hasn’t debuted yet on an official game for the Stars and Stripes.
Nonetheless, Greg Berhalter USMNT could be waiting to call him for the next World Cup Qualifiers and shut once and for all the door to Tata Martino and El Tri, it’s just a matter of time to see what transpires.
Even if he’s not called for the USMNT he’s still an option to join U-23 US Men National Team.
