After missing the last FIFA window match of 2021, Gregg Berhalter decided to call Luca de la Torre again, as he’ll now make his comeback with USMNT. He’s yet to be on the starting XI, but his return to the Stars and Stripes is a good sign.

He’s part of the surprising names Berhalter called for the upcoming matches US Soccer MNT will face next week, alongside 17-year-old goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina and Tim Weah, who is returning from an injury, but with a tight schedule and to prevent injuries, it’s most certain that De la Torre will have playing time.
The absence of Gio Reyna, who is dealing with an ongoing hamstring injury that kept him out of the pitches since the USMNT match against El Salvador, on September 2, opened the door for De la Torre’s return to Berhalter’s squad, as he can play the same position as the Borussia Dortmund midfielder.

The 23-year-old joined Eredivisie side Heracles Almelo back in 2020 out from Fulham FC. So far, in the two seasons he’s played in the Dutch league, he’s played a total of 53 games, managing to score one goal and assisting on 4 occasions.
