Matt Turner will become an Arsenal player next season, U.S. coach Gregg Berhalter said after his team beat El Salvador 1-0 in a World Cup qualifier in Qatar.
Could USMNT qualify for the Qatar World Cup on this FIFA date?
"Turner's story is wonderful. He went to Fairfield University, who decided not to keep him, and now he's playing for the U.S. National Team and soon he'll go to Arsenal. He has come this far because he has always believed in himself, never gives up, and has an admirable work ethic," commented Berhalter.
"Matt is a great guy and a great teammate. Tonight he was an example, as he did everything that was asked of him and always kept calm," the U.S. coach concluded.
The transfer of the goalkeeper would be closed, according to the 'Daily Mail', for about five million euros, plus two million in variables. Turner will arrive in London next summer and will probably occupy the position left by Bernd Leno. The German goalkeeper, who is out of contract in 2023, has lost momentum after the emergence of Aaron Ramsdale this summer at the Emirates and is currently listening to offers from Newcastle and his former club, Bayer Leverkusen.
On the other hand, Arsenal will be securing the services of a goalkeeper who is clearly on an upward line. Turner signed for the New England Revolution in 2017 and has since played a total of 106 games. A regularity that allowed him to make his debut with the United States National Team in July 2021. In less than a year, the goalkeeper is untouchable for Berhalter.
