Fortune was not on the side of Giovanni Reyna in his return to the starting lineup with Borussia Dortmund. For when he seemed to leave behind the injury that sidelined him for five months of the pitches, a new discomfort was present.

Gio Reyna reappears after 153 days in Borussia Dortmund's loss to Bayer Leverkusen

In the 30th minute of the match between Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Monchengladbach, the American left the field in tears after feeling muscular problems in his right leg.

Although the precise injury is unknown at this time, the fact that Reyna had to leave the game after working so hard to get back into the lineup was hard to watch. Dortmund are already without Erling Haaland and need all the help they can get.

Borussia Dortmund will have the USMNT international undergo medical tests to determine the extent of the injury, but there has been speculation that the hamstring that was affected during September's FIFA matchday, which sidelined Reyna for five months, has been re-injured.

USMNT call-up at risk again

After his return against Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, Gio Reyna excited USMNT fans with a possible return for the games against Mexico, Panama, and Costa Rica next March.

Reyna has not started for the United States since the September 2 injury, and his eligibility for the March qualifiers on the road to Qatar will now be in doubt after Sunday's mishap.

The youth player is struggling with the hamstring injury

Gio Reyna is just 19 years old, but he has rapidly established himself as one of the USMNT's best players. He has four goals in just nine appearances for the national team, including a decisive goal in last year's Concacaf Nations League final against Mexico.

For his club, he has 10 goals and 11 assists in 72 games. That kind of production for a 19-year-old is very hard to come by.

The player will have to wait for the medical results to know what was the problem that caused his substitution. Giovanni Reyna must be strong to face this new episode of injury and not despair. With the World Cup in Qatar approaching, the USMNT player could be worried, but work and patience should be the American player's best friends in the coming days.
