The history of their nickname

In its beginnings, the British aristocracy had a great influence on the development and growth of the Italian club, but towards the end of the 20th century, Juventus faced an unprecedented economic crisis. However, Edoardo Agnelli and his family, who owned the FIAT car company, took over the club, a position they still hold today.

At that time, the working class used to call the country's wealthy elite and businessmen "vecchios signores".

That is the reason why, taking into account the background of the Turin club and the leadership of the Agnelli family, Juventus ended up being called the "Vecchia Signora" (the old lady).

The "Vecchia Signora" is not the only nickname Juventus has. In Italy, it is also known as the "Piedmontese Madama". Turin is the capital of Piedmont and the Palazzo Madama is a well-known architectural complex located in the historic center of the city.

All this gave rise to this other particular nickname, little known outside Italy but widely used in the transalpine country.
