This sunday a chapter in the history of Mexican sport has been written, with the triumph of Sergio 'Checo' Pérez in the Sakhir Grand Prix, winning his first formula 1 race, which is why he became the first Mexican to do so since Pedro Rodríguez did it in 1970, at the Belgian Grand Prix. However, Sergio Pérez's dreams as a professional athlete began with football, as he wanted to become a striker for the Águilas del América, a passion that he has never hidden until today.

Sergio Pérez since childhood has been an admirer of Club América. In 2002, he preferred to attend the duel called the National Classic between the Águilas del América vs Chivas de Guadalajara instead of running the kartz final. Sergio Pérez had the opportunity and fortune that any Club America fan dreamed of, prior to a duel between Chivas de Guadalajara and Club América, the owner of the club, Emilio Azcarraga, gave him the opportunity to travel on the bus with the rest of the team.

In 2001, the Chilean striker from Real Madrid, Iván Zamorano, arrived to the club, who in 78 games scored 38 goals, achieving a league title in Mexico, in addition to falling in love with millions of fans who saw him play, one of those fans was Sergio Pérez, who has declared that Zamorano was his idol.

The attacker of América, Iván Zamorano, fell in love with Perez more when he gave him his autographed shorts, a present that the Formula One driver keeps with great affection. Despite being born in Guadalajara, Jalisco in 1990, Pérez did not choose any team from his city and from a young age he showed love for the Aguilas del America so he never thought on supporting Chivas or Atlas.
