Italy will miss the World Cup for the second time in a row after they weren’t able to beat North Macedonia MNT in the European play-offs. Instead, the Macedonians will face Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal in the play-off final that will give the last ticket to Qatar 2022.

In the last minutes of the game, Aleksandar Trajkovski became the hero of the Lynxes as he stole the ball in the midfield and drove forward, just to end the play shooting a winner that gave North Macedonia the victory and the ticket to the final.

The Italian national team never showed the will to win the game, starting from their coach, Roberto Mancini, who decided to play both Emerson and Jorginho in the starting XI, instead of giving the opportunity to Sandro Tonali or Lorenzo Pellegrini.

As if that wasn’t enough, when Mancini realized the poor performance that they were having, and that the result was escaping, he decided to debut Joao Pedro, another Brazilian player that decided to represent the Azzurra.

Why to start three Brazilians?

Although Jorginho has been open about his decision of play for Italy given that he arrived at the country at a young age and was never formed in the Brazilian academy teams, both Emerson and Joao Pedro were part of Brazil Youth National Team.

Emerson debuted with the Azzurra in 2018 and has played 26 games with them, including the EURO 2020, where Italy were champions. But the call of Joao Pedro seemed more like Mancini was grasping at straws, as he had never played with Italy before.
