With the current season coming to an end in just a few weeks, teams are already starting to plan what will be their 2022-23 season, especially since there’s going to be an obligatory break between November and December thanks to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The reason why Raúl Jiménez has lost his scoring streak at Wolves
The teams that don’t have chances of winning a title this season are starting to find ways to strengthen their squad in hopes of improving their participation next season by looking to add new players or even a new coach, like Manchester United did.
In the past few seasons, Premier League has become one of the leagues where the few Mexicans that play there have thrived, as Raúl Jiménez has become an idol in Wolverhampton Wanderers and Marcelo Flores is having a breakout season in Arsenal U-23.
That’s why Premier League teams are starting to look for Mexican players, especially the ones that already have experience in Europe, like Hirving “Chucky” Lozano, who is in conversations with Wolves, or Edson Álvarez, who most likely will follow Erik ten Hag to the Red Devils.
It’s no lie to say that Lozano and Álvarez, alongside Raúl Jiménez, are the most successful Mexican players in Europe in recent years, but that doesn’t erase the efforts that other players have been doing quietly to solidify their careers.
That’s the case of Erick Gutiérrez, who joined PSV Eindhoven in 2018 and after a lot of ups and downs, he finally established as an essential player for the Boeren, especially since he helped them come from behind to win the Dutch cup against Ajax.
His good performances have caught the eye of a couple of English teams, including Manchester United, as Erik ten Hag knows him well after facing him for a few seasons, which is why now that he’ll take over Manchester United, he’ll look to acquire him to strengthen the Red Devils midfield.
Another team that has asked about the 26-year-old Mexican midfielder is Fulham FC, who will return to Premier League for the 2022-23 season after playing one season in Championship. Even if it’s not the biggest team, playing for a newly promoted team could help him solidify in Premier League, just like Jiménez did in the 2018-19 season.
