Now that the summer transfer window is getting closer by the minute, rumors have started to arise, especially the ones surrounding Manchester United, who are pointing to be one of the most active teams given all the positions they need to fill.
If Manchester United can’t sign Darwin Nuñez, they already have another player in mind
Since Erik ten Hag was named as the new coach of the Red Devils from next season until 2025, several of AFC Ajax players have been linked to Manchester United, starting with Edson Alvarez, Lisandro Martínez, Antony and Jurrien Timber.
All of them have been essential players for the Godenzonen on their quest to win back-to-back championships, and even if ten Hag is interested in them, it looks difficult that Ajax is willing to sell several of their best players all at once and to the same team.
That’s why the Dutchman has also been linked to former Ajax players that he knows well and could help them boost their careers once again, like Frenkie de Jong, who has become a priority for the Red Devils, although FC Barcelona is not willing to let him go.
The Blaugranas don’t intend to part ways with de Jong unless an offer over $100 million arrives at Camp Nou, something that Manchester United are not willing to do, as even if they need to fill key positions, they know they can’t overpay for one player.
But Barcelona are not closed to negotiating with the Red Devils, as according to reports from 90min, they have offered to transfer Sergiño Dest to Old Trafford, as the American right-back couldn’t convince Xavi Hernández that he was essential for the Blaugranas.
Even if Manchester United have Aaron Wan-Bisaka and Diogo Dalot for that position, ten Hag doesn’t fully trust them, as he knows that they need a more reliable defender, and given that ten Hag knows Dest from Ajax, he can find a way to help him recover his level.
FC Barcelona already informed the United States international of their intentions of selling him, but even if his current market value is set at $19 million, Joan Laporta is looking to earn at least what they invested when they first signed Dest in 2020, $23 million.
