Manchester United's long winter

Tie at Old Trafford between Manchester United and Southampton, in the match that opened the 25th Premier League matchday. The Red Devils took the lead, but the Saints equalized right at the start of the second half to point as visitors.

It soon became clear that this would be a game of alternatives, because United is not able to impose its rhythm of play from start to finish, and always ends up conceding, as indeed it did.

There were chances for both from the outset. Southampton, with quick transitions; United, with a game that tried to be more elaborate, which it was as long as Pogba kept his head on the pitch.

United scored first

Fraser Forster saved Southampton

Another goal was disallowed against United, again for offside. In fact, there were two in one, so to speak: first, by Sancho when Bruno took a long free-kick into the area, and immediately after, by Cristiano after his teammate's free-kick. The Portuguese's goal did not count.

There was also controversy in the other box when Broja went down in the area after embarrassing Maguire, who continues to be capable of the best and the worst. In the end, the points were shared, leaving Southampton satisfied and United very disappointed, having dropped four points against opponents they should have won on paper. Brighton and Leeds, their last two tests before the Champions League, where Atletico Madrid, fortunately not much better, awaits.
