One of the positions that the Dutchman needs to prioritize is finding a replacement for Paul Pogba, who will leave Old Trafford in the next few weeks as a free agent, as the 29-year-old midfielder was an essential player throughout the season.

Reports suggested that Manchester City were following him closely, but Fabrizio Romano informed that Pogba has closed the door for the Citizens, as he knows of the rivalry that exists between both clubs. For now, he has two offers: one from PSG and the other from Juventus.

Pogba will define his future in the upcoming weeks, same time that Manchester United has to find his replacement, and according to reports, they are already negotiating with a few options, including FC Barcelona’s midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

De Jong is ten Hag’s priority

The player that has become the favorite to arrive at Manchester United to replace Pogba is former AFC Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong, someone that ten Hag knows well from the time he coached them in Eredivisie before he arrived at FC Barcelona.

According to reports from sport news outlet Sport, ten Hag already talked to de Jong to try to convince him to join him in Premier League, and even if the 25-year-old midfielder has said that he feels happy in Barcelona, he could still end up joining the Red Devils.

One of the things that can complicate his arrival at Old Trafford is the money that the Blaugranas are asking for him, as Sport suggest that Joan Laporta won’t negotiate for him unless there’s an offer over $106 million (€100 million).

United already established how high will they go for de Jong

Although Frenkie de Jong is at the top of the list for the Red Devils, they know that they won’t overpay for him like they’ve done for other players in the past that ended being a failed experiment, that’s why the highest that they’re willing to bid for him is $85 million.
