Carney Chukwuemeka, a young midfielder at Aston Villa, has emerged as an option to Jude Bellingham as Liverpool consider midfield signings for the upcoming summer. The Reds are anticipated to wait until 2023 to make another midfield acquisition, despite appeals for doing so during the current transfer window.
Liverpool idol expected to leave the club next year on a free transfer
The goal, as always, is to "find the right midfielder at the right price," according to James Pearce of The Athletic. Bellingham, a midfielder for Borussia Dortmund who is expected to depart the Bundesliga outfit next summer, is the front-runner in this regard.
The 18-year-old Chukwuemeka, whose parents are from Nigeria, was born in Austria but was raised in Northampton, where his family relocated when he was a little boy. He currently plays for England's youth teams. The teenager has already worn the captain's armband while competing at the U19 Euros this summer, scoring twice in three games while playing in a two-man midfield.
Chukwuemeka, who is highly regarded by current Villa manager Steven Gerrard, has already appeared 16 times for his side at the senior level. There is no sign that Chukwuemeka would stay at Villa Park past the conclusion of his contract in 2023, despite the accolades from the illustrious player.
Liverpool have shown interest in the player since 2020. Chukwuemeka's plans may have altered since reports in November that he had no intention of signing a new contract. Perhaps Liverpool could move straight for Chukwuemeka instead of Bellingham, who is anticipated to fetch over £100 million next summer.
Manchester United would attempt to steal this signing from Olympique Lyon
