Liverpool closed the 2021-22 Premier League season with a 3-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers, although it wasn’t enough for them to win a new Premier League title, which would have been their third title in the season, as Manchester City also won their game 3-2 against Aston Villa.
Jürgen Klopp is planning the next generation of players for Liverpool with Fabio Carvalho’s signing
Even if The Reds still have one more game to play in the season, the final of the Champions League against Real Madrid, next weekend, they are already planning the movements that they will do over the summer, as they know they need to add new players and part ways with others.
The first player that was confirmed to leave Anfield was Divock Origi, as the 27-year-old Belgian striker couldn’t come to terms with Liverpool to extend his stay contract and will become a free agent, with reports suggesting his addition to AC Milán for next season.
But there’s at least other two players that could be on the move once the summer transfer window, as both Takumi Minamino and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have had a secondary role for The Reds and their spot on the roster could be taken by players with more projection for Jürgen Klopp.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain joined The Reds back in 2017 out of Arsenal for a transfer fee worth $40.5 million. Since then, the 28-year-old midfielder has played 133 games for Liverpool across five seasons, scoring 17 goals and 15 assistances.
But in the current season, he only played 17 games, starting nine of them and only one since January, showing that Klopp considers him to have a secondary role. Reports from ESPN, given the few playing time that he had, he could be on the move, as five Premier League teams have showed interest in him.
And with his contract expiring at the end of the 2022-23 season, the upcoming transfer window is the perfect option for Liverpool to earn back what they invested in him before he’s able to negotiate his arrival as a free agent with any team that he wants.
According to reports from Liverpool Echo, Liverpool and Jürgen Klopp have made a decision regarding the immediate future of the 28-year-old midfielder, as they are not expecting to part ways with any of their current midfielders, which means that Oxlade-Chamberlain will remain in Anfield for at least one more season.
