Erik ten Hag hasn’t yet assumed the coaching role of Manchester United and he’s already going to face several openings on the roster once he officially starts his stint on July 1st as several players will become free agents and others are going to be transferable.

Although the positions he needs to worry the most about are in the midfield and at least one striker, as Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, and Edinson Cavani are all leaving, and Cristiano Ronaldo has yet to decide his future, there will be other open spots on the roster.

Reports suggest that he’s looking to add at least three players from Eredivisie side AFC Ajax, his former team, as they are the footballers that he knows best and could improve the squad as well as help him establish his system a lot quicklier.

But among those players, he is not considering a goalkeeper, as even if David de Gea has become one of the most reliable players in the team, the second goalkeeper, Dean Henderson, is eager to leave Old Trafford in search of more playing time.

Where can he play next season?

The 25-year-old goalkeeper barely played in the 2021-22 season, as he only had three games on Ralf Rangnick’s starting XI, none of them on the Premier League, as ha had activity in Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

According to English news outlet Daily Star, Henderson has a few offers to leave Manchester United over the summer, but Newcastle United is the team that is bidding the hardest to acquire him, something that they’ve tried to do since the winter transfer window.

Now that they have the backup of the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, they are willing to overpay for his transfer, as the Magpies need a more reliable goalkeeper than Martin Dubravska, who especially during the first half of the season was involved in several mistakes.

How much are they willing to pay?

The report from Daily Star suggests that even if Henderson’s market value is currently set at $23 million, Manchester United won’t to let him go for less than $50 million, as having a reliable goalkeeper is a need in today’s soccer. But even if his release clause is more than the double of his market value, Newcastle is willing to pay it.
