USMNT teenager Giovanni Reyna's bright start to the season was cut short by a hamstring injury after picking up an injury on international duty in September in the match against El Salvador which he has failed to recover from.

Reyna scored two goals in the first three games of the season before picking up the injury. He joins star striker Erling Haaland on the list of long-term absentees. The two youngsters could be out for the rest of the year with a January return date being looked at.

He has so far missed 18 games and 82 days of action for Borussia Dortmund due to injury. The American teenager whose father Claudio Reyna was also a professional footballer made his debut as a 16year old for Borussia Dortmund and is also a full USMNT international.

Reyna has not been called up for the November international break for the games against Jamaica and Mexico as the USA looks to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. “It’s really not foreseeable for me when he will be back in training with the team, I have to be honest. But we hope that will happen before the end of this year.” Borussia Dortmund manager Marco Rose said of the injury.
