Zinedine Zidane is rapidly becoming the frontrunner to succeed Didier Deschamps as the next head coach of the French national team. Although Thierry Henry has been mentioned as a contender, Zidane's appointment seems all but certain. This shift in momentum was underscored by the words of Bixente Lizarazu, Zidane's former teammate, who expressed confidence in the former star's path to the role.

Lizarazu, speaking about the future of the national team, made it clear that Zidane's deep connection to French football and his passion for the position make him the obvious choice. "I can't imagine anyone else in that role," he stated. "To me, it's obvious. Given that Zizou has announced that this is his absolute dream, wouldn't the president of the FFF (Philippe Diallo) consider him as the first option? If we have someone like Zizou and don't see it as something fantastic, I just don't understand football," Lizarazu added, suggesting that any competition for the position may now be irrelevant.

Zidane's Dream Job, Henry's Struggle

The comments from Lizarazu seem to tilt the balance decisively in Zidane's favor, casting doubt on Henry’s chances of landing the role. The former Arsenal striker, despite being a respected figure in French football, is now positioned as the underdog in a battle that many see as already decided.

The Road Ahead for Zidane

  • Zidane is the overwhelming favorite to replace Didier Deschamps.
  • Thierry Henry is considered his main rival for the position.
  • Lizarazu’s comments suggest that Zidane's appointment is virtually certain.
  • Zidane has openly expressed his desire to take on the role, calling it his "absolute dream."
  • The FFF president, Philippe Diallo, is expected to strongly consider Zidane due to his iconic status.
  • Henry's chances appear slim, with the competition largely seen as a formality.
