Inter Miami lost 3-1 against Monterrey CF at the Estadio BBVA in Mexico. This was the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup quarterfinals, and Monterrey advanced to the semi-finals by defeating Lionel Messi's team 5-2 on aggregate. Monterrey will play Colombus Crew in the semis while Messi and Inter Miami crash out of the tournament. Now Inter Miami will play for the MLS and the Leagues Cup this summer.

Monterrey was leading 2-1 on aggregate, and they looked comfortable at their stadium, letting Messi and Inter Miami hold onto the ball. Inter Miami couldn't hold onto the ball for long, and the Mexican side was threatening on their attacks. Monterrey had a couple of shots on target, and Messi was even close to the opener. The Argentine took a shot in the box, but the tight angle led to him sending the shot over the net.
The opener arrived for Monterrey in the worst way possible. Inter Miami's keeper Drake Callender attempted to pass the ball to his teammate, but the pass was intercepted by Monterrey's striker Brandon Vasquez. The American striker pretends to take a shot quickly but doesn't shoot until he drops Callender with a fake shot. Vasquez then calmly slotted the ball in the bottom left corner to make it 1-0 for the Mexican team. This was the worst start for Inter Miami, and things only got worse in the second half.

In the 58th minute, Monterrey grabbed their second goal of the night thanks to a great strike by German Berterame. The Argentine striker takes a shot from outside the box that has lots of power and pace. The ball goes past Callender and into the top right corner to make it 2-0.
Six minutes later, in the 64th minute, Monterrey grabbed a third as Jesus Gallardo scored a header in the box, who sent the ball into the bottom right corner. Jordi Alba received a second yellow card in the 78th minute and was sent off, leaving the team with ten men. Inter Miami did get a goal back in from a free kick as Lionel Messi sent a perfect ball in the box from Diego Gomez, who headed the ball into the net to make it 3-1. Regardless, it game over for Inter Miami and Messi as it was 3-1 for Monterrey and 5-2 on the aggregate score.
