Jorge Mas, the president of Inter Miami, held a press conference where he addressed several key topics regarding the future of the club. First, Mas discussed the departure of Gerardo “Tata” Martino and the near-agreement with Javier Mascherano to become the club’s new head coach.

Mascherano Almost Confirmed as New Coach

Mas expressed that Inter Miami is "very close to finalizing an agreement" with Mascherano, who is set to take over from Martino. “I hope that the announcement of a new coach for Inter Miami will come in the next few days,” said the president.

The club's goal with the new manager is clear: "We will not be a team that parks the bus. We will look for a proactive style of football, full of goals. We are looking for someone who is committed to that idea," Mas explained, emphasizing the philosophy they want for the future of Las Garzas.

The Challenge of Managing Messi and Young Talents

Regarding expectations for the new coach, Mas highlighted the need for someone capable of managing both Lionel Messi, the greatest player in history, and the young talents on the team. "We have the best in history playing with very young players, whether from our academy, draft prospects, or players with huge potential. We need a coach who can manage both young players and the best in the world at the same time," he stated.

Messi’s Future and the Copa Libertadores Dream

One of the most relevant topics was Messi’s continuity at Inter Miami. Mas expressed his optimism: “I fully expect that during the inauguration of our new stadium in 2026, Lionel Messi will be our number 10.”

Mas also shared his dream of having Inter Miami play in the Copa Libertadores, a goal complicated by scheduling and federation issues but still an aspiration for the club: "I would love to see Inter Miami participate in the Copa Libertadores, because we aspire to play against the best clubs in South America," he said. He also added, “On a very selfish note, it’s the only competition Messi hasn’t played in. I’d love to give him the platform and the opportunity to play in the Libertadores with Inter Miami.”

Signings and Preseason Preparations

Looking ahead, Mas also discussed the club's plans for new signings. He assured that the club is still looking for "the best players, whether or not they are superstars," and anticipated that, with the new coach, they will bring "extraordinary players."

Regarding the preseason, Mas revealed that the club will undertake a tour but with a different focus than last year, ensuring that the team will be well-prepared for the upcoming season.
