Major League Soccer and the Professional Referee Organization (PRO) today announced Drew Fischer as the 2024 MLS Referee of the Year. This is the first time Fischer has received this distinction.

Fischer, a veteran of several MLS All-Star Games and MLS Cups, made his MLS officiating debut in August 2012 when the New England Revolution hosted the New York Red Bulls. This year, the Canadian official took charge of 16 MLS regular season matches. On October 13, he officiated his 200th MLS match when Vancouver Whitecaps FC hosted LAFC at BC Place.

A FIFA international referee since 2015, Fischer served as a referee and fourth official at the 2024 Summer Olympics. Other international accolades include appearances at the FIFA Women's World Cup (2019 and 2023), the FIFA Club World Cup (2020 and 2021), and the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Fischer Named 2024 MLS Referee of the Year

Nominated through a selection process involving PRO executives, candidates were voted on by MLS club technical staff, media, and MLS players.

Fischer's appointment to the prestigious award is a testament to his consistent high-level performances throughout the season. His ability to make accurate and decisive calls, coupled with his calm demeanor on the field, has made him one of the most respected referees in MLS.

As the league continues to grow and evolve, the role of the referee becomes increasingly important. Fischer's recognition as the 2024 MLS Referee of the Year highlights the significant contributions that officials make to the sport.
