Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have been compared by many fans, players, and coaches over the years, and many still have their own opinions about the two. Over the years, they have been judged on more goals, more trophies, Ballon d’Ors, and international trophies. The latest manager to comment on either of the two is Jose Mourinho. TNT Sports gave him quickfire questions for him to answer, and the first one given was, “Who is the player that you never signed but wish you did?” Mourinho mentioned Messi as ‘the little guy’ and said, “Of course, the little guy, that little guy was not coachable, but I have to say in our generation he [Messi] was the best.” Mourinho had defended and praised Cristiano Ronaldo to be the best in the world multiple times when he coached the Portuguese striker when the ‘Special One’ was the Real Madrid manager. Now he gives a huge praise for Messi after their rivalry in Spain between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Mourinho at least acknowledged Ronaldo as the only player apart from Messi to be amongst the best ever in football, as he used to say CR7 was the best. Mourinho said, “Cristiano is the best. The best in the world, yes. Probably the best ever. I saw Maradona a couple of times. I never saw Pele. But Cristiano is amazing. He is a goal machine. He is an incredible player. He is like Zidane, there will never be another Ronaldo.”

Something similar Mourinho said about Messi that he said about Ronaldo is that they are players that don’t need coaching. When asked if Ronaldo needed coaching at Real Madrid when he was the manager, Mourinho said, “I don’t think so, he doesn’t need it.”

Jose Mourinho on the EUROS

Mourinho was also asked about the EUROS, which starts in a few days. He picked Portugal as the team to win the tournament, and he picked Vinicius Jr. to win the 2024 Ballon d’Or award. He picked Jude Bellingham to be the best player in the EUROS, which made many Real Madrid fans happy as he was the club’s former manager.
