Manchester United have been looking for new managers these past couple of months as Erik Ten Hag has not delivered a convincing season with the team. There have been many names linked to the Manchester United job, including Zinedine Zidane, but his name keeps getting further and further away from the conversation of potentially becoming a new manager of Man United. Now, the Atheltic reports that Roberto De Zerbi is one of the names under consideration for replacing Erik ten Hag. There are also members of the Manchester United hierarchy who have given serious consideration to Gareth Southgate. Out of these two names, De Zerbi is the favorite from Manchester United fans, but the club may need to pay around $6.3 million to appoint him due to his contract with Brighton. The Italian manager agreed to part ways with the club and is looking for a new club to coach for next season.
Mike Keegan from the Daily Mail reports that Manchester United are set to reach a conclusion over the managerial position at Old Trafford this week. Ten Hag could potentially be sacked his week from the club, and De Zerbi is in pole position to be the next manager. De Zerbi guided Brighton to an 11th-place finish in the Premier League with 48 points after 38 league games played. Their record in the league was 12 wins, 12 draws, and 14 losses.
Other options that were linked to the Manchester United job were Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel. Pochettino has not become unlikely to take over, while Tuchel also looks unlikely after a reported meeting with the co-owner of Man United, Sir Jim Ratcliffe. Fabrizio Romano reported that Tuchel is not planning to take the Man United job; he wants to take a break and not coach any club this summer. Tuchel has decided not to continue in talks with United after meeting in recent weeks.
The 2023/2024 season was Ten Hag’s second season with Manchester United, but it was worse than the first one. Manchester United finished 8th in the Premier League with 60 points, and their record after 38 matches was 18 wins, six draws, and 14 losses. They did win the FA Cup after defeating Manchester City 2-1 in the final.
