Theo Hernández has made history by scoring his 30th Serie A goal for AC Milan, surpassing Paolo Maldini’s longstanding record of 29 goals and becoming the club’s all-time highest-scoring defender. This milestone came during Milan’s 1-2 win over Como 1907 on Tuesday, with Hernández playing a crucial role in securing the victory.

The Milestone Goal

Hernández achieved this feat with a somewhat fortunate goal in the 71st minute. His initially errant strike unexpectedly beat the Como goalkeeper, leveling the score after Assane Diao had put the home side ahead earlier in the match. Shortly after, Rafael Leão sealed the comeback with a goal in the 76th minute, securing all three points for Milan.

Theo Hernández: A Key Player for Milan

At 27 years old, Hernández has become a cornerstone of Milan’s defense and attack, frequently playing as captain of the team. His contract runs through to the end of the 2025-2026 season. Earlier this year, on January 6, Hernández added a second title to his Milan career, lifting the Supercoppa Italiana after defeating Inter Milan 2-3. In 2022, he also won the Serie A title with the club.

Challenges and Resurgence

This season, Hernández faced challenges under former Milan manager Paulo Fonseca, who publicly criticized the player for his drop in form. However, since the arrival of new manager Sergio Conceição, Hernández has been a key figure, playing every minute in the four matches since the change in leadership.

Key Points:

  • New Record: Theo Hernández surpasses Paolo Maldini with 30 Serie A goals for Milan.
  • Crucial Goal: His 71st-minute strike helped Milan secure a 1-2 win over Como 1907.
  • Career Milestones: Hernández has won two major titles with Milan: the Supercoppa Italiana and the 2022 Serie A title.
  • Contract Status: Hernández is contracted with Milan until 2026.
  • Form Issues: Faced criticism under Fonseca but has returned to form under Conceição.
