A new study conducted by Chiliz Group has revealed a fascinating trend in global football fandom: the majority of fans have a soft spot for clubs beyond their national borders. In fact, a staggering 86.7% of respondents expressed interest in at least one foreign team, while over 33% named a foreign club as their primary allegiance.
The survey, which polled 8,000 football fans across eight countries in Europe, Asia, and the Americas, sheds light on the increasingly global nature of the sport. The Premier League emerged as the most popular league, with 37.02% of respondents indicating a preference for an English club. La Liga followed closely with 25.32%, while the Bundesliga and Serie A claimed 6.87% and 5.79% of the votes, respectively.
When it came to specific clubs, Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, and Manchester United topped the list of the most popular teams globally. The Premier League dominated the top 10, with six English clubs making the cut: Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester City, and Liverpool. Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich completed the list.
