Many Manchester United fans were unsure if Erik Ten Hag would stay at the club this summer ahead of next season after finishing 8th in the Premier League. Despite the poor finish, they won the FA Cup against Manchester City in the last game of their season, which may have saved Ten Hag. David Ornstein reported yesterday that Ten Hag will stay as the Manchester United manager next season after the end-of-season review culminated with the decision to keep the Dutch manager. There will be talk over a contract extension since the current one expires in the summer of 2025. Many managers, including Zinedine Zidane, were lined up to replace him this summer. Now the French manager has no real options to coach a major club next season as Man United is now done, Bayern Munich appointed Vincent Kompany, and Juventus will appoint Thiago Motta. Another option for Zidane would’ve been Marseille in Ligue 1, but the French club looks close to appointing now-former FC Porto manager Sergio Conceicao.

Talks between Manchester United and Erik ten Hag’s agents are already underway and advanced, with all parties anticipating an agreement on a new contract past 2025. Ten Hag is happy to sign and continue the project, while INEOS wants to give him total trust in the future. The Manchester United player is reportedly shocked by the news that he will stay next season, but many are pleased that the uncertainty over the managerial situation has now been ended and that the club can now move on with their summer plans.

What Ten Hag may have to accept in the new contract is to step back when it comes to making signings for the team. The Times reports that Ten Hag is reluctant to give away power to INEOS regarding transfers. INEOS wants to give more power to the recruitment team regarding signings, but it is written in Ten Hag’s present contract that he has a veto on all potential purchases.
