While the EUROS gets closer, Portugal finally finalized their preparation for the EUROS as they played three friendly matches this past week. Cristiano Ronaldo continues to make history for Portugal as the EUROS 2024 gets closer. CR7 scored a brace in Portugal’s 3-0 win over Ireland, but he broke an incredible world record that no player has achieved. Ronaldo has become the player with the most matches played at the highest level, which is 1226 games played. Ronaldo also became the first player in history to score in 21 consecutive years for the national team. He has scored every single year with Portugal since 2004. This brings lots of confidence to Ronaldo and the Portuguese national team fans, who are among the favorites to lift the European Championship in July.

Ronaldo spoke after the match and expressed how he felt scoring an impressive brace against Ireland at the Estadio Municipal de Aveiro. CR7 said, “Playing for the national team is passion and love. It is pride. Playing in front of the Portuguese fans, there is nothing better than this. Success is only achieved through criticism. I will be ready, as always.”

Ronaldo was asked about his first goal, which was a great goal by the way he placed the ball in the top corner with his weak foot. When asked if it was one of his best goals, Ronaldo said, “I don’t know, I need to see all the goals. But the most important thing has to be that the team did well, and we played well. The goal was to win and give confidence. Everyone gave a good response, very happy with the result.”

Ronaldo on playing for Portugal

While he is about to play his 6th EUROS with Portugal, Ronaldo talked about having the same feeling about playing for Portugal when he first played for them in 2004. Ronaldo said, “Of course, I dream the same way! Playing for the national team is my love, my passion, in any tournament, of course the Euro is special, it will be my sixth, it is also a record, but for me, when you go back to 2004 in my first match, my thoughts and pride remain the same. Playing for Portugal, there is nothing better than that.”
