Lionel Messi joined Inter Miami last summer, and while some thought it would be a mistake he would regret, it has been the complete opposite. Messi, along with his family, has appeared to be very happy and calm about living in Miami, and he sees the MLS club as his last professional football team. Messi's contract at Inter Miami expires in December 2025. David Beckham, who is the co-owner of Inter Miami, and the other co-owner of the club, Jorge Mas, are very happy with Messi joining the club and the MLS as it not only brought more eyes to the league in America but also lots of funds to the league and the club. The club's value has increased drastically since the arrival of Messi, and now the owners want Messi to experience the new stadium built for him and the fans of Inter Miami. Jorge Mas said, "Our new stadium will be ready at the end of 2025. The idea is for Lionel Messi to play his last season in the new stadium. We want him to stay with us as long as he wants."

Mas continues to praise Messi and his arrival since he talked about the financial gain the club has gotten since the Argentine star arrived last summer. Mas said, "Inter Miami will have a turnover of over $200M in 2024. The club has tripled its profits since the arrival of Lionel Messi.” The are hoping to convince Messi to extend his contract past 2025 since he has been delivering on the pitch in the MLS.

The contract extension could happen since Lionel Messi does not close the door on playing in the 2026 World Cup, which is six months after the contract with Inter Miami expires. If Messi wants to prepare for the upcoming World Cup, a new contract with Inter Miami is possible, especially since the star claimed that the MLS club will be the last club he will play for.

Lionel Messi on retiring from professional football

Lionel Messi knows that his time in football is short as he is 36 years old and will turn 37 on June 24th. The Argentine star was asked about retirement and about the upcoming World Cup. Messi has no plans to stop anytime soon and said, "I'm not ready to leave football. I've done this my whole life. I love playing the game. I enjoy the day-to-day, the training, the matches. There's always a bit of fear that it will all come to an end. I'm aware that the time is approaching, and I'm having a good time. I enjoy the small details that I will miss when I no longer play."

Lionel Messi's son, Thiago Messi, talks to him about the next World Cup, which could convince the Inter Miami star to play in it. Messi said, "Thiago talks to me a lot about the upcoming World Cup; we are living in the United States, and it's going to be held there. We talk about it, he asks me questions, and he's excited to experience that World Cup."
