Italian police have launched a major operation, arresting dozens of members of ultra groups from both Inter and Milan, dismantling a criminal network that had infiltrated the football world. The arrested individuals are suspected of serious crimes, including organized crime, extortion, and violence.

The operation, coordinated by Milan's Anti-Mafia Directorate, took place in the early hours of the morning and involved the State Police and the Guardia di Finanza. Among those detained were prominent leaders from both ultra factions, such as Marco Ferdico from Inter and Luca Lucci from Milan.

Investigations have revealed that these ultra groups had evolved into criminal organizations controlling various illegal activities related to football, such as ticket scalping, extortion of local merchants, and stadium violence. Authorities also suspect ties to the 'Ndrangheta, the notorious Calabrian mafia.

The murder of Antonio Bellocco, a key ultra leader for Inter, last September was the catalyst for this police operation. Investigators believe the killing was tied to a dispute over control of illegal activities surrounding football.

With this operation, Italian authorities aim to dismantle the criminal networks that had infiltrated football and restore order in the stadiums.
