Marcus Rashford, the 27-year-old Manchester United forward, could be contemplating a significant move as he faces mounting challenges at Old Trafford. Former United captain Roy Keane has openly suggested that Rashford consider a transfer abroad to rejuvenate his career. The striker, a product of United's academy, has recently hinted at his dissatisfaction, especially after being left out of the squad in their 2-1 victory against Manchester City under manager Ruben Amorim.
Rashford's struggles have been further compounded by his absence from England’s national team and his exclusion from United's upcoming League Cup quarter-final clash with Tottenham Hotspur. While Amorim has expressed his desire to retain Rashford, the player’s future at the club appears increasingly uncertain.
Speaking on the Overlap’s Stick to Football podcast, Keane addressed Rashford’s recent interview with journalist Henry Winter, saying, “What he said was honest and insightful. Sometimes, a fresh start benefits everyone involved.” Keane believes that Rashford’s long tenure at United, which began in the youth ranks, might have led to stagnation.
Keane highlighted the importance of motivation for elite players. “Marcus has all the qualities of a top player, but once you lose that hunger, it’s hard to get it back. A move could reignite his passion for the game and provide a new challenge that brings out the best in him,” Keane added.
Rashford's name has already been linked with some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain, who are reportedly seeking a successor to Kylian Mbappé. Other top-tier teams are also rumored to be monitoring the English forward's situation.
Keane believes a move could be mutually beneficial, allowing Rashford to rediscover his drive while giving United the chance to reshape their attack. “We’ve seen players leave United and thrive. If he’s not finding his form here, maybe it’s time for both parties to move on,” Keane remarked.
Rashford’s statistics for Manchester United are impressive, with 138 goals and 63 assists in 426 appearances. However, whether he will continue to add to those numbers in a Red Devils jersey remains to be seen as speculation around his future grows.
