Real Madrid fans are sad that Toni Kroos has played his last match for the club but are happy that the number 8 shirt will go to Federico Valverde. The Uruguayan midfielder has been one of the best players in the squad, and he looked up to Kroos when he was younger. Now, with Kroos gone and Valverde taking the number 8 shirt at Real Madrid, the Spanish club may look to bring in another midfielder into the squad. Real Madrid are interested in the River Plate midfielder Franco Mastantuono. The 16-year-old midfielder is causing lots of excitement in Argentina, and some in South America believe that he will be the next Valverde. A few weeks ago, Fabrizio Romano reported that Real Madrid had already made contact with River Plate to ask for Franco Mastantuono as they really appreciate the Argentinian midfielder, as reported in March. Mastantuono turns 17 in August, and if he signs for Real Madrid, he will be able to play for the team next year.

His release clause in the River Plate contract is worth around $45 million. Other clubs like Chelsea and PSG have shown interest in the young midfielder as well. Real Madrid could be a more attractive club for him since they will want another player for the midfielder after Kroos left and then after Luka Modric leaves next season.

Many did not expect Kroos to retire from football due to his high level. With him leaving, many found Valverde ideal to wear the number 8 shirt. After Real Madrid won the Champions League for the 15th time, Valverde talked about the number 15 he had and said, “I love number 15, my dream at Real Madrid started with this number… but yes, I will change it in two months. Let’s say that chapter finished quite well!”
