Cristiano Ronaldo's museum posted an image on their Instagram account of a young Ronaldo with his mother in Lisbon to play for Sporting CP. The caption of the post said, "Anything worth doing requires sacrifice. At 12 years old, Cristiano moved from Madeira to Lisbon to chase his dream: to become the best player in the world. It was never easy being away from his family, but his focus on his goal kept him going all the way to the top." Ronaldo reposted the post on his Instagram story, and it got the football community to talk about the image.
Cristiano Ronaldo made his Sporting CP professional debut in 2002 in a UEFA Champions League qualifying round against Inter Milan. He made a total of 31 appearances for Sporting CP in his early career, where he scored five goals and provided six assists.
Ronaldo then joined Manchester United in 2003 after impressing in a friendly match between Sporting CP and Manchester United at the inauguration of the Estadio Jose Alvalade. The Portuguese star joined Man United and became the first Portuguese player to play for the club. Ronaldo went on to win a Champions League trophy, one FIFA Club World Cup, three Premier League titles, one FA Cup, two English League Cups, and one English Super Cup.
The Sporting CP academy at the club is called the Academia Cristiano Ronaldo since the youth system helped develop the Portuguese star. Ronaldo went on to win five Ballon d' Ors, four UEFA Best Player in Europe, and three Best FIFA Men's Player awards.
