Manchester City got out of Anfield with a point as the game ended 1-1. Pep Guardiola's team took the lead in the first half thanks to a greatly worked corner-kick routine. John Stones grabbed his first Premier League goal of the season, but Man City conceded a penalty early in the second half. While Manchester City is still in the title race, it is currently in third place on the Premier League table with 63 points. They are one point below Liverpool, who are second, and Arsenal, who are first by goal difference.

Man City manager Pep Guardiola spoke after the game and discussed how difficult it was to play at Anfield against this Liverpool team. Guardiola said, "Good moments from both sides. We started really well. We have to never ever forget when we play in this stadium; otherwise, we don't have a chance, knowing it will be so difficult. It was a tight game on moments. Not a game where all the time a team controls it."
Guardiola continues to praise Liverpool and said, "A lot of credit to Liverpool. They proved again what they have done is unbelievable for this rivalry. I know how difficult it is to come here and win. The players gave everything. I give credit to the opponents and take the point."
A moment many Man City fans were worried about was the anger of Kevin De Bruyne during the game. Guardiola took De Bruyne off the game for Mateo Kovacic in the 69th minute, and the Belgian expressed his displeasure about the decision to Guardiola on the touchline. De Bruyne was not happy about being subbed out and many thought there was tension between the Belgian and Guardiola.

Pep Guardiola was asked about the incident between him and De Bruyne. Guardiola said, "I’m happy to see that! I like it if he’s upset, it’s good. He’s happy now…I knew what we were missing; we missed keeping the ball. That's good. [He] has a chance next game to prove it. We need a player who keeps the ball. Its not about pressing. Kovacic is really good at that. We were happy with Kevin. It's not a problem. We're fine."
