In a recent confession, Neymar shared how he helped Lionel Messi perfect his penalty technique, a story that surprised many, considering the Argentine star was already renowned for his skill in decisive moments. The Brazilian forward revealed that it was Messi himself who approached him to learn how to improve in this area of the game, despite being one of the most skilled and successful players in world football.

During a training session with the national team, Messi asked Neymar about his approach to taking penalties. "Messi asked me for help to take penalties. One day, while training, he asked: 'How do you manage to take penalties like that?'" Neymar recalled, still amazed by the moment. Despite Messi’s humility in asking for advice, Neymar could not help but be surprised, as in his mind, the idea of teaching something to Messi seemed unimaginable.

However, Neymar did not hesitate to share his knowledge with the Argentina captain. "I thought: 'Are you crazy? You’re Messi, if I can, so can you,'" the Al Hilal forward admitted, referring to the great admiration and respect he has always had for the Rosario-born player. Despite his initial surprise, Neymar explained some of the secrets behind his ability to execute penalties so effectively.

According to Neymar, the key to his technique lies in staying calm and confident under pressure. Through a series of training sessions, Messi began to practice and perfect his technique, and the results soon followed. During the World Cup, Messi demonstrated that he had internalised Neymar’s advice, converting several crucial penalties that contributed to Argentina’s path to glory.

This exchange of knowledge between the two footballing stars reflects the camaraderie and respect they share, despite their differences in age and career trajectory. For Neymar, helping Messi in such a crucial aspect of his game was a significant experience, and for Messi, a reminder that even the greatest can always learn something new.

Without a doubt, this anecdote reinforces the idea that football, beyond competition, is a sport where players can share and grow together.
