Lionel Messi is known to be a very shy person, and he shows it whenever he talks during interviews; it seems that the trait has been transmitted to his oldest son, Thiago Messi. The young football player played in the La Liga Futures tournament, which showcased the future of football. The Inter Miami academy played against the FC Barcelona youth team. Thiago Messi was in a short interview with JRamon de la Morena from ‘¿Por qué es tendencia?’ He was asked many questions in regards to him playing football, watching his father play, and his opinion on players in Europe. When asked what his favorite goal that his father scored in his career, he picked the one that was tough for Cristiano Ronaldo during his career. Thiago said, “The best goal my father scored? The one against Manchester United in the Champions League Final [2009].” Messi scored an impressive header in the 70th minute of the match to defeat Ronaldo’s Man United team 2-0 in Rome.

Thiago was asked what player he would like to play with in the future, and he named the young FC Barcelona star. Thiago Messi said, “I would like to play with Lamine Yamal one day.” Yamal is only five years older than Thiago Messi, and if Lionel Messi decides to live in Barcelona in a few years, he could take Thiago into La Masia, so it could be a possibility.

He was also asked who he prefers, Kylian Mbappé or Erling Haaland. The son of Messi said, “Truthfully they both have their own best qualities, but if I have to choose one… I’ll go with Haaland, I’ve always liked him.” The young player will continue at the Inter Miami academy until his father stays there when his contract expires in December 2025.

Lionel Messi’s son’s preference for the national team growing up

Lionel Messi was born in Argentina but has spent most of his life in Spain during his time at FC Barcelona. His son, Thiago Messi, was born in Spain, which makes him eligible to play for the Spanish national team in the future. While he is eligible to play for Spain, the young boy clearly believes that he would rather represent Argentina than Spain.

Thiago Messi said, “I would like to play with the Argentina National Team. I don’t think they can convince me about Spain.” Lionel Messi was asked before if he wanted to represent Spain in the past, but Leo also had his eyes on representing Argentina instead of the place he lived for most of his life. In Lionel Messi’s book, Messi, The Patriot, he wrote, “When I was a kid I expected to get a call from the AFA [Argentinian Football Association], I was asked informally if I wanted to play for Spain, but I always said that I wanted to play for my national team because I love Argentina and these are the only colours I want to wear.”
