Real Madrid fans have been waiting to find out if Luka Modric was set to play another season at the club, and they finally got their answer. Earlier today, Real Madrid announced that the club had extended Modric's contract and that he will play for the team until his contract expires next summer on June 30th. Modric was rumored to not be given another contract by the club, and the Croatian midfielder wanted to stay longer.
This July 17 2024, Luka Modric has signed his one year contract extension. He will continue playing for "Los Blancos" under the management of Carlo Ancelotti in the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, at least until June 2025. Different from Toni Kroos decision, the 2018 Ballon D'or winner wants to incerase his personal cabinet of 26 trophies with Madrid. The last Champions League title made him think again, and after his participation in the Euro 2024, where he was defeated in the group stage, Luka decided to continue playing at high level for one more year.
Modric was offered deals at other leagues, like in the Saudi Pro League and in the MLS. The midfielder maintains wearing the number 10 at Real Madrid for next season. The club is very grateful for the contribution of the Croatian midfielder by extending his contract and offering him a different role compared to the past season.
Modric has officially become the club captain, a role he was set to given, but Nacho Fernandez was the main one in the past season. Modric has been at the club for more than 12 years since joining them in 2012 from Tottenham Hotspur.
Real Madrid's statement of Modric staying reads, "Real Madrid and Luka Modrić have agreed to extend the contract of our captain, who remains linked to the club until June 30, 2025. Modrić arrived at Real Madrid in 2012, and in his twelve seasons defending our shirt he has become a legend of Real Madrid and world football."
Modric was very grateful for given another contract with the club and said, "I'm very happy to renew another year with Real Madrid. This is a unique and special moment for me"

Modric played a total of 46 matches for Real Madrid across all competitions this past season. He scored two goals and provided eight assists. He played in 32 matches for Real Madrid in La Liga, but he did not start in all of the matches. He started in 18 of them and was not given lots of minutes off the bench, but he was still key for the team.
